The Voices of the River
Voices of the River consists of public film screenings and discussions featuring regional audiovisual works that address social and environmental issues related to the Tijuana River and the people who live along its banks. The screenings are followed by a panel discussion and collective dialogue among the audience, producers, academics and activists.

This event feeds into the communication strategy for social change proposed by the Tijuana River Socio-Environmental Project in collaboration with key stakeholders in Tijuana and San Diego.

The Tijuana River Socio-Environmental Project and the Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice presented a screening of multiple short films accompanied by a panel discussion where they explored the environmental and structural violence surrounding the Tijuana River and the experiences of deported people living in the canal.
Tara Stamos Buesing (Founder and Executive Director of the San Diego Harm Reduction Coalition) was a special guest on the panel discussion.

"The Cat" - Julio Romero Salas
"El Gato," a character who lived in the Tijuana River canal, rehabilitated himself and decided to direct a musical documentary showing that love for God is the reason to fight addiction. It also illustrates the reality experienced by people deported from the United States to Tijuana.
